ラコステが「ホリディ・コレクターズ・シリーズ」という、異なる業界のデザイナーとコラボレートし、アイコンであるポロシャツの再解釈に取り組むプロジェクトをスタートさせました。その第一弾に起用されたのはインテリア/プロダクトデザイン界の鬼才、トム・ディクソン。トムはオーガニックコットンに天然インディゴ染めの「エコポロ」と高機能の新素材を使った「ハイテクポロ」の相対的な2種類を制作。クリスマス限定アイテムとして本日から25日までの限定販売で、販売数も限定各300枚と少ないので、コレクターズアイテムとなること必至です。第二弾のデザイナーが誰になるかも楽しみです。

LACOSTE's new project is called the "Holiday Collectors Series", where designers from different fields collaborate and re-design their iconic polo-shirt. Tom Dixson, the prodigy of interior / product designer was chosen for the first of the series. His creation are two contrasting items: one is the "eco polo" which uses natural indigo dye on organic cotton and the other is called the "hi-tech polo" which uses new high-performance material. These are sure to become a collector's item as there will only be 300 of these shirts sold until the 25th as a Xmas limited item. Look forward to who will be up next.

GAS AS I/Fとナナミカが協業で、昨年に引き続きTHE NORTH FACEとSURFACE TO AIRのコラボレーションでダウンパーカー、ベストを発売します。ダウンはTHE NORTH FACEのクラシックデザインに最新テクノロジー素材が使われ、軽くて柔らかい着心地と身体を芯から暖める保温性で、見た目・機能共に優れた一品です。そしてその内側にSURFACE TO AIRのグラフィックがプリントされたスペシャルなダウンになります。昨年から続くこのプロジェクトのコンセプト「Roots of Life」のもとに、今回グラフィックのモチーフに使われたのは欧州から渡来した外国人が書いた古い日本地図です。

Under the on-going concept from last year, "Roots of Life", the graphic motif used for this year was a old map of Japan drawn by a foreigner.

以前紹介した、BIG ACTIVEがアートディレクションをしたBECKのCDは、世界各国のアーティスト達のグラフィックステッカーがついていて、それを自由に貼って自分だけのオリジナルCDスリーブをつくるというもの。そのなかに日本人で唯一参加しているアーティストが薮野研盛である。
彼はこれまで『アイデア／IDEA』『SWITCH』『spectator』『VICE』(UK/JAPAN)『Dazed & Confused』(UK/JAPAN)『APE』(UK)『COMPOSITE』といった国内外の雑誌で作品を発表しながらも、ROCKET (Japan) GALLERY SPEAK FOR (Japan) NEW IMAGE ART GALLERY (L.A.)などで展覧会を開催するなど、世界各地から注目されているアーティストの一人である。彼の作品はホームページでみることができるので、ぜひ。

ベルリン発のカルチャー・マガジン「Lodown」の54号が出ました。51号からは毎号様々なデザイナーがアートディレクションを手掛けており、今号のデザイナーはロンドンを拠点に活躍するグラフィック・アート集団のABAKE。
表紙は縦と横、１冊で両方のフォーマット仕様で、色はドイツのタクシーを表す色、レター／フォントはドイツ国内で見られるお店の看板や、会社、薬局のサインなどを集めたもので出来ています。

The 54th issue of the culture magazine out of Berlin , Lodown is now out. Starting issue 51, various creators have done the art direction of the magazine, and this time the job was done by the graphic art group based in London, ABAKE.
The cover is formated for both up and side ways, the colors are of German taxi's and the letter and fonts are of what you see in German stores, billboards, companies and drug store signs which were gathered.

パリのコレットにて12月30日までファビアン・バロンの個展『Drawings』が開催されています。「ハーパース・バザー」や「イタリアン・ヴォーグ」のクリエイティブディレクションや、カルバン・クラインの広告のアートディレクションなどにて多大なる賞賛を得てきた彼のパーソナル・ワークを見る事が出来ます。 Fabien Baron's exhibition is taking place at Colette in Paris until the 30th of this month. You will get to see the personal works of the artist who's received tremendous acclamation for his works, such as the creative director of magazines like Harper's Bazaar and Italian Vogue and for the art direction of Calvin Klein ads.

最近は香港やシンガポールなどアジア諸国においてはグラフィックは人気があるようで、日本をテーマにした様々な展覧会やワークショップ、カンファレンスなどが開催されることが多い。同じようにグラフィック書籍は香港のAllRightsReservedや、cream、シンガポールのwerk、pageoneといった出版社などがハイクオリティのコンテンツ／印刷物を出版している。なかでも日本人デザイナー達はアジア諸国では人気があるようで、日本人デザイナー達を中心にした展覧会や作品集等が多いようだ。
なかでもSK Lamが主宰するAllRightsReservedは、デザインコンサルタント会社として、様々なアートディレクションなどの他、展覧会などの企画／ディレクション、カンファレンスのプロデュースなどの活動をしながらも、年間数冊の書籍の発行もしている。いつもその装丁は豪華というかこだわりの一冊になっていて、最近ではステッカーグラフィックスというステッカーを集めた書籍は、世界各地で活躍するデザイナー達がつくったステッカー、豪華なブックレット、そしてDVDまでが収録されていて、しかもパッケージはオリジナルの型をおこしたものを使用し、色は全部で4色という、かなりのこだわったものになっている。そして最近日本のBEAMS Tで開催されたKEVIN LYONSの展覧会に合わせて出版された一冊も、カバーがＴシャツで使われるコットン素材でできているなど細部にわたってこだわりの一冊となっている。
もちろん日本人のクリエイターについても彼はとてもよく知っていて、ほとんどのデザイナーは彼の名前をどこかで聞いたことある、あるいはメールなどでコンタクトがあったりするのでないだろうか。もしかしたら、彼からメールがきたら、あなたも認められたということになるのかもしれない。次はまたどんなことをしてくれるのか、彼の動きはいつも目が離せない。

Recently in Hong Kong and Singapore and other Asian countries, graphics seem to be what's popular. Many exhibitions, workshops and conferences with Japan as the main theme are taking place in Asia and likewise, high quality contents and publications are being put out by publishers in Hong Kong like AllRightsReserved and cream, and Singapore's werk and pageone.
Particularly, AllRightsReserved run by SK Lam publishes several books a year while doing various art direction work as a design consultant company and produce and direct exhibitions and conferences at the same time. The binding of their books are always extravagant with a special twist to it. Sticker Graphics published recently comes with collection of stickers by designers from around the world, a gorgeous booklet, and even a DVD. AND the package is made from an original shape using all 4 colors! Another book published to go with Kevin Lyons' exhibition which took place at BEAMS T in Japan, came with a cotton cover used for the T-shirts.So you can see their obsession for details.
Of course he is very familiar of Japanese creators and vice versa, most designers have heard of his name at some point, or perhaps have gotten some kind of email from him. If so, you might be yet another one to be recognized by him. What will he do next..my eyes are always curious of his next move.
